Bishopton Bowling Club was formed as a Private members Club in 1976 however the green had been there for many years before as part of the Civil Service Association Sports Section.

On its formation, the decision was taken that the Club should be both dual gender and equal opportunity and while we have individual Ladies and Gents competitions, most of our events are open to all members and use of the clubhouse, green and facilities are on an equal footing.

Club membership falls into two categories, Ordinary and Associate. Ordinary members have full use of all the Clubs facilities and entry to all Competitions and Tournaments while the Associate membership restricts entry to some and the membership fee reflects this.

Our normal outdoor season runs from early April to early October, but that does not mean the end of the bowling season completely as we have a short carpet which allows members to bowl indoors during the winter.

Each year the Club holds a number of Competitions and Tournaments. The Competitions run throughout the season and the Tournaments are held on a single day. (See diary page). For those of a less competitive nature Monday evenings have a balloted game where members and teams are mixed and games are held summer and winter on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Three evenings are set aside during the winter months for indoor bowls, but members are free to use the green and indoor carpet, (winter only), at any time that it is free. We also have a specially adapted wheelchair which would allow disabled bowlers to take part in all the Clubs activities.

During each year we hold a number of social events, quiz nights, casino nights, a Burns Supper etc and the culmination of the year, the Annual Presentation of Prizes and dance. Again please see our diary for upcoming events. These are open to members and guests of members.

As an active Club we take part in external competitions and events run by the various Bowling Associations in this area and have friendly events with other Clubs where the emphasis is on fellowship.

More details about the Club and its activities are contained in other sections of this website and if you would like any further information please use the contact facility and we will be happy to respond to your questions.
